Why I'm Attending the 21st Annual Needham Technology, Media & Consumer Conference

It is officially conference season, and this week I’m heading to the Westin New York Grand Central for the 21st Annual Needham Technology, Media & Consumer Conference (May 12–14).

In a year where "AI Integration" has moved from a buzzword to a fundamental balance-sheet requirement, this specific conference offers a unique vantage point. Here is why I’ve cleared my calendar for this event.

1. The Convergence of "Physical AI" and Tech

One of the biggest themes this year is how AI is moving out of the cloud and into the physical world. With companies like NEO Battery Materials and TSS presenting, the focus is shifting toward the infrastructure—think high-performance computing (HPC) and the battery tech required to power the robotics and drones of 2026.

2. The 1x1 Meeting Format

Unlike larger, "spectacle" trade shows, the Needham TMC is famous for its 1x1 meeting structure. It’s less about the flashy keynote and more about:

  • Direct access to management teams (like the CEOs of Riskified, Red Violet, and USA TODAY Co.).
  • Deep-dive fireside chats that bypass the PR fluff.
  • Authentic networking with institutional investors who are actually moving the needle.

3. Navigating the Media Evolution

With the presence of legacy-turned-digital giants like USA TODAY Co., the conference provides a front-row seat to the "Media" part of the TMC trifecta. I’m looking to see how these companies are leveraging identity intelligence and digital marketing solutions (like LocaliQ) to sustain growth in a fragmented attention economy.

4. Real-Time Market Intelligence

As of May 2026, we are seeing a significant shift in supply chains—specifically the move toward Korea-made batteries and domestic defense tech to avoid "foreign entities of concern." Getting the "boots-on-the-ground" sentiment from the executives navigating these regulations is invaluable.

Are you attending Needham TMC in NYC this year? I’ll be floating around the fireside chats and the lounge areas between sessions. If you’re here, let’s grab a coffee and talk about where the next leg of the growth cycle is coming from.
