Press Release Digest: AI Money Heads for Power and Optics as Ayar Labs Hits $650M

Thursday's press release wire ran long, though a lot of that was the same handful of announcements repeated in eight or nine languages (Tigo Energy's note on UK installers went out in eleven). Strip out the translations and the pile shrinks a lot. Most of what's left is AI in some form. The interesting part is where the money went.

AI Money Went Into Power and Plumbing

The biggest private raise of the day was optical. Ayar Labs took its 2026 funding to $650 million to scale co-packaged optics that can actually be manufactured, aimed at AI scale-up links that reach beyond a single rack. Interconnect is where a lot of the bottleneck has moved. Investors noticed.

Power was the other theme. TAR raised a $120 million Series A at a $1 billion valuation, led by Spark Capital, to build off-grid power for AI. Energy Vault closed financing on 275 MW of Rolls-Royce MTU reciprocating engines for hyperscale AI sites. ONE Nuclear launched a 5 GW Louisiana portfolio that mixes nuclear, natural gas and battery storage. SolarEdge, better known for rooftop inverters, published an 800 VDC protection framework with NVIDIA as part of a push into full DC powertrains for data centers. Grid connections are slow. Everyone is building around them.

On the compute side, DigitalOcean secured a $725 million equipment financing facility to fund capacity expansion. That's debt secured on hardware, no new shares. QumulusAI finished a Blackwell B300 deployment, which switches on an $18 million take-or-pay agreement. CoreWeave launched a Physical AI field engineering group to help customers turn their own data into production models, and Wasabi opened an AI business in Silicon Valley with Pinaki Mukherjee in charge.

Closer to the ground, R3 Lithium started recovering and refining critical minerals for the US battery supply chain; GrafTech and Antora Energy teamed up on carbon for American industry; Dig Energy finished its first commercial geothermal heating and cooling install. Quantum got two partnership notes as well: Altera and Riverlane on error correction for Agilex FPGAs, Infleqtion and Cisco on networked quantum.

Earnings and Capital Markets

Adobe reported record Q3 results after the close. MasterCraft Boat Holdings put out its fiscal 2026 numbers, and Vecima set its Q4 fiscal 2026 call for September 24.

Debt and private capital were busy. Mercado Libre priced $1 billion of senior unsecured notes due 2036. Motive secured more than $1.3 billion in growth financing from General Catalyst. EIG held the final close of its Senior Infrastructure Debt Fund VI at $4.0 billion across its direct lending platform. Impinj is exchanging its 1.125% convertible notes due 2027, CPI announced a proposed secondary offering by a major stockholder, and Fullscript took a strategic investment from Altas Partners and L Catterton. Digital Brands Group updated investors on its go-private timeline.

For the conference calendar: Agilent is at J.P. Morgan's U.S. All Stars event, while MindWalk and Veritone are presenting at H.C. Wainwright's 28th annual global investment conference (Veritone on September 14).

Defense, Space and Earth Observation

RTX partnered with and invested in Xcimer Energy to develop directed energy technology. Xcimer's background is laser fusion, so the crossover isn't as odd as it sounds.

York Space Systems had its flight-proven platforms picked by Tomorrow.io for the DeepSky early warning constellation. EUMETSAT took control of MTG-I2, the second imager in the Meteosat Third Generation series. U-Space and Tenchijin signed a partnership on a next-generation infrared Earth observation system. Coulson Aviation, the aerial firefighting operator, launched EmberWorks, and Stratasys is taking its additive manufacturing work for aerospace and defense to IMTS 2026.

Software Keeps Shipping Agents

Agents everywhere. Atlassian launched a system to coordinate agentic engineering. Acrisure unveiled Auris AI, pitched as an operating system for insurance. Knightscope introduced The Security Agent. Zuper added four AI agents for field service crews. Experian launched an AI decisioning platform with real-time underwriting for its consumer marketplace. Radisys launched its V.AI ecosystem for telecom AI services, and Palantir used AIPCon 11 to put its customers on stage.

Security had one genuinely strange product. Bastille Networks launched software that locates smart glasses inside secure environments, which tells you where wearables are heading. ThreatDown claimed a 100% malware block rate across 17 consecutive AVLab tests. ManageEngine found only 8% of organizations keep cybersecurity a permanent priority after a breach. With the 9/11 anniversary today, one release argued that building security technology hasn't kept pace in the 25 years since.

IBC week brought the streaming infrastructure news. Comcast and Fastly are partnering on content delivery for Xfinity customers; Netskrt is showing Media Over QUIC work with Oracle; Alliance for Open Media members are demonstrating AV2. MotoGP signed Accenture to rebuild its direct-to-fan streaming.

The Survey Pile

Techreviewer.co says 89% of software companies now use AI to write code, and 90% report at least one downside. DataCamp found student AI use is universal while educators worry about critical thinking. Visa says consumer trust is speeding up agentic commerce. Capgemini found 42% of consumers are confused and unconvinced by life insurance policies. CI&T says the UK payments industry backs the National Payments Vision, but only 29% are very confident it'll work. Omdia had US PC shipments up 1.0% in Q2 with the full year forecast to fall 10.7%.

The trade number worth keeping came from Euromonitor, which estimates Latin America is taking in nearly $300 billion in Chinese exports.

Health, Culture and the Rest

One Biosciences received €3.3 million from France 2030's i-Démo 5 programme to develop the first single-cell diagnostic for triple-negative breast cancer, working with Institut Curie. Ant Group's AI health app AQ passed 150 million users. Ginkgo Bioworks joined ARPA-H's GIVE program to build an autonomous manufacturing system for individualized RNA medicines. Epsilon Health raised $27.6 million to go after the US radiologist shortage.

WAKA Inc. is bringing Black Clover and Gintama to Roblox as official games. Punchbowl and Minecraft now do online party invitations together. Jakob Kudsk Steensen's virtual installation The Kuutar Garden opens in Oulu, Finland, this month.

And the headline nobody saw coming: A.R.I. detailed an unpaid C$5 million claim against Drake's OVO just as the brand heads for a sale to Authentic Brands Group and Vince.
